Factor: A Game of Primes
A challenging game of number factorization
for the iPhone and iPod Touch.

News:

January 12th, 2010: I've submitted my very first game to the iTunes App Store. It's not going to be for everyone, but heck, I learned a lot developing it. I hope you get some enjoyment out of it too...

About Factor

What is Factor all about?

Factor is a game of large number factorization. The player is given a large number (anywhere between 2 and 33 digits, depending on the difficulty level) and they are asked to factor that number by dividing it by primes or powers of primes. To pass the level you need to factor correctly, but to ace a level, you need to factor a number perfectly. Make a mistake factoring and lose points.

Really, a game about math? Where's the explosions!?!

I know Factor isn't for everyone, and it's unlikely to be downloaded by too many people. But as a first attempt at an iPhone app it seemed like a manageable step.

A future game will have more explosions, I promise. :)

This game is too hard!

It's pretty hard at first, especially if you make random guesses. There's no time limit, so take your time and think about the number before attempting to factor.

No, it's *really* hard! I need some hints.

OK, here's a few...

Where did you get the idea for this game?

I came up with the idea two years ago when playing around with a calculator, typing in a random number and guessing what I could safely divide it by. Later I implemented an early version of this game for the GP2X console.
